How I can help you

I can help with nonprofit organizational development, grant writing, public relations, communications, volunteer and advocacy training.

With over 43 years of experience in the nonprofit field, from 501c3 to 501c6 organizations, I have led statewide, as well as local nonprofit organizations through various stages of growth and decisionmaking. In addition to holding staff positions in over six major organizations and agencies, I have also served at the Executive Director level and contracted with many, many others. I held the Program Manager position for three years at Leadership Montgomery in Montgomery, Alabama, I am also an alumni of its Class XXXIV. In this position, I mentored area young professionals (25-35 years of age) in the Torchbearers program, as well as designed professional development and leadership training for older managers (35-up).

Presently I am actively involved with 41 local nonprofits and assist in the funding of 91 area programs meeting health and human service needs in the River Region.

During my career, I have worked diligently with organizations which serve the poor, the disenfrancised, the elderly, the mentally challenged, the accused, as well as animal welfare workers. Mentoring young leaders to become community volunteers has been a passion.  Needs are great for organizations which can bridge the gap of services not currently provided for these populations. I believe it is my purpose to mentor such organizations, not to encourage duplicate organizations providing services that already exist, but to support organizations which bring relevance to the community and are meeting unique needs not necessarily met by existing nonprofit groups. In addition I work to find ways to build collaborations in the community to maximize resources whenever possible. I believe it is a necessary part of accountabilty to be able to tell donors we are good stewards of the money they contribute to nonprofit charities.

Presently I am V.P. of Community Impact at the River Region United Way, a regional nonprofit committed to fighting for the health, education, economic stability and basic needs of everyone in the River Region of Alabama. In this capacity, I direct over 125 volunteers working in two committees whose responsibilites are to perform basic needs assessments of the service area and also to allocate United Way campaign funds to fund programs based on needs uncovered during these assessments.
